Play-Along Piano
The latest experimental feature in Musical Pro for Android is a “light-up” play-along piano for practicing using the touchscreen piano. It is now available in the Android Market and is a free update for all current Musical Pro customers. For those who haven’t yet made the upgrade to Musical Pro (from Musical Lite, which is free), it is still just $1.99 in the Market.
When a note is to be played, the corresponding key lights up in red (it is difficult to see in the attached video on the black keys) and the program waits until you press it to continue. As you play the song, Musical provides a chordal accompaniment in the background at the tempo you play.
This video demonstrates the 3 songs, When the Saints Go Marching In, Twinkle Twinkle, and My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean, played on an Android G1/Dream (but it also works just as well on the Magic/MyTouch)
I just bought the app for my HTC incredible…I love it, great work! Also love this play along feature as I play guitar, but not piano…any plans for guitar instrument? Also, I think the incredible supports more than 2 touch points but app says only 2.
I haven’t gotten a chance to try out an Incredible yet, so I’m not sure.
Do you remember if the multitouch wizard mentioned “Android 2.0″ or if it mentioned “HTC Sense”?
If it was using the Android 2.0 multitouch, there is nothing hard-coded about number of fingers–it just loops over however many are available.
It is possible however, that it could be reverting to the old 2-finger HTC multitouch, but I don’t have one on hand to check.
I currently don’t have plans for a guitar, as there are a good number of guitar apps already out there for Android that have good reviews (although I have written up some neat code that accurately synthesizes guitar strings–I just haven’t figured out what, if anything, to do with it).
