About Me – Part II – Photography
Posted in About on March 31st, 2008 by Christopher Souvey – Be the first to commentI have an AP US History test tomorrow (with our first cumulative essay question… *gulp*) and I need some way to distract myself for a little bit to take a break from studying, so I’m going to write about one of my hobbies – photography. I lived in Singapore for three years and got the opportunity to travel throughout Asia (I went to an American school, so we got both the American holidays and the holidays of the various Asian religions – lots of 3-day weekends for traveling), and along the way I became interested in photography for documenting and remembering my travels (which I’ll talk about later in another post).

I started out with a 4MP point-and-shoot and in 2006 I finally upgraded to a 8.3MP Canon Rebel XT DSLR with a 300mm telephoto lens.
In the past, I’d uploaded my pictures to Sony ImageStation, but they shutdown a few years ago. I tried Google’s Picasa Web Albums, which, although very clean and easy to use, lacked a significant number of features. A few months ago, I decided to sign up for Flickr, which although it lacks the nice AJAX and cleanliness of the services I was used to, has a number of community based features that I’m enjoying.

I posted my first set of pictures from the Sea of Cortez (Baja California) in December, then stopped using it until last week when I vacationed to Singapore and decided to post my photos on Flickr. I’ve decided now that I’m going to post some favorite pictures from my various trips every few days until I get through all my photos. Check out my photos on Flickr or watch the photostream on the right for updates.
Photography is just a hobby for me – I don’t plan on ever doing it professionally. The only picture I’ve ever had “published” is a picture in the “Expedition Report” for the cruise I went on in the Sea of Cortez (see online version – it’s the scorpion photo on the left)
Time to get back to studying for history… Oh, and those two pictures in this post are my two most “popular” on Flickr (based on the number of views, comments, and favorites)
